George Leyendecker was a locksmith and is listed as one of the first inhabitants of Allentown in 1764.

Allentown was founded by James Allen in 1762. A petition was presented to the court of Northampton County for a road pass"through the town, then being laid out, to called Northampton." This, in absence of other documents fixes the laying out of the town to 1762. The first notice of the town, given in the assessment lists, is in 1764, when thirteen families resided in it. The inhabitants of Allentown were poor, being Germans who had but recently immigrated to America and, therefore, generally very helpless.
